Long story short: You can currently buy the book, Movies in… - Movies in Fifteen Minutes — LiveJournal
This is, after all, what happens when you cross the streams.

Long story short: You can currently buy the book, Movies in Fifteen Minutes, for about $11 (US) at amazon.co.uk. Shipping is about the same amount, leaving you at about $22 (US) for a 401-page hardback book. Amazon UK tends to ship faster than Amazon US, and I haven't heard any complaints about them. You cannot currently buy the book in North American (US/Canada) stores. You can buy the book in the UK, Australia, Europe, and several other countries and/or non-American continents that slip my mind at the moment. We're working on getting the book to North America, but I don't have any news on that front at the moment. However, anyone can order from Amazon UK.

Short story long: First of all, let me apologize if you've been reading this community since the dawn of time and you've heard about this book for at least six months, maybe more, and you know all this, and possibly even own the book. It's just that, after posting V for Vendetta in Fifteen Minutes, I got several comments that made me realize that some people are coming to m15m for the first time and don't even know that there are other parodies, much less that there's a book zomg. Even though I had a graphic of the book's cover at the end of each parody, in an attempt to be somewhat subtle about the book-pimping. Well, the end-of-parody graphic is now a little more blatant. I'm posting this entry mainly to have something for the graphic to point to. So... sorry about that. Carry on, sorry to bother you, etc.

By the way, V in 15 minutes was NOT the right thing for me to read at work. I was snerking up a storm...and my coworkers kept giving me weird looks...

I bought the book, though, and am loving it! I think the Titanic m15m is my fave!

On a personal note, and certainly not needing any specifics, just an idea: Are you making money? I mean, really? It sounds like things are going well for you, I was just wondering if it has been truly lucrative.

I had dreams of becoming an author once. *whimsical sigh*

I'll be honest with you: I made a $10,000 advance. That means I got $4200 in 2004 (upon signing the contract, minus my agent's 15%) and $4200 in 2005 (upon finishing the manuscript). Taxes ate up nearly $400 of that each year. I have not received royalties yet (which is completely normal--no shenanigans there or anything). At this point, the real benefit of having the book published is to have the experience and the exposure, in hopes that it will lead to other books of mine being published, either more parodies or the regular fiction (historical, children's, fantasy, what-have-you) I was writing before this. The kind of money you get at this stage is more like, "Yay, I can pay for roof repairs/vet bills/a semester in grad school now!"

Amazon UK was REALLY fast getting the book to me in FL (~4 days)... and I ordered back during the holiday rush. Kudos to them.

I pity the fool ... who's just now discovering M15M. :)

I'm in AZ and just ordered the book, so hopefully they'll be pretty quick in getting it to me.

You have no idea how tempted I am to just go buy the book from Amazon UK. But I'm so very poor so I really can't. It drives me crazy every day I tell ya. But as soon as I have some more money in the bank, THAT BOOK IS MINE.

I know how you feel--I'm broke, and saving up for a couple of books myself. : )

Well, you can always go read "The Black Ribbon," but that may drive you nuts as it stops dead at after the third of five chapters while I regroup and work on the last two. It's not that I'm not going to finish it so much as I'm afraid to post the rest because I actually have a shot at getting it published for real now.

Do you happen to know if the book is sold in Israel?
cleolinda From: cleolinda Date: April 6th, 2006 08:23 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hmm, not offhand. You may want to call a local bookstore and see--it shouldn't be held up there the way it is in North America, if it's going to be there at all. Let me know if you find anything out, and I'll post whether it's out or not.

I finally ordered the book from amazon UK. I'm moving at the end of this month, however, and I'm hoping it gets to me before then so it doesn't get lost in the abyss.

I would expect it much sooner than that; as Cleo said, Amazon UK is teh quickness when it comes to shipping. I had my copy in about five days, and I ordered on a Sunday night over there.

I shall be poking my local [ Montreal ] sizable bookstores, which are usually pretty good about getting UK publications of things in; can't use amazon.co.uk as I've yet to find a non-fly-by-night financial institution here that will give credit cards to people on visas with expiry dates fairly close.

I was a mite surprised by some of the "customers who bought books by Cleolinda also bought books by... " that turned up - I like Ellen Kushner's work a lot, but I'd not have thought to make a connection - though it's not anywhere near as much of a glurk as the "Customers who bought this book and wear clothes were also interested in: leopardskin slippers" that was turning up with a fair number of SF and fantasy titles a year or so ago. [ Non-clothes-wearing Amazon customers strike me as redefining the concept of "niche market". ]

Good luck with it anyway; I've been enjoying the parodies here since 'Troy' and 'Phantom of the Opera'.

You know, I wonder if maybe Cleo's just got such a diverse audience that the algorithm is useless. Sometimes they give good suggestions, but sometimes they don't. And I have books that I've ordered from Amazon that totally throw off the recs they give me, because I only wanted that one specific book, and nothing else on the topic.

I just want you to know I have not been able to stop saying "Is your crazy contagious?" over and over in my head for the last week!

I want to buy it, but I want you to sign it too! It just seems soooo cool :) There's nothing we can do about having you do that, right?

I'm still trying to design a decent bookplate that y'all can send in for. : )

Hey, wanted to pass along that you can totally buy the book at Amazon Japan.
which is moderatly random, as it hasn't been translated into Japanese, but rather awesome, as that's where I am.
The wait shall end!

Do you know appx. how many "newbies" come into this community every day/week/month? I don't know if there is a counter or if you have a general guess... Whoever is brand new to the community has A LOT of reading to do.

I have no idea, really. : )
