Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes

As promised: Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes. I'm still counting up the fundraising, but we'll have a final count soon. I'm already running late with the book manuscript, but this was a very quick write--it practically parodies itself, and it was fun, and a good palate cleanser.

ETA 4/02/05: Okay. I'm gonna try to be real clear about this. I really, really liked the movie. I liked the book. I have never seen the show, but I would probably like it, and I ended up really enjoying the music. I like the actors involved. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ME COMMENTS ABOUT MY "HATE" FOR THE MOVIE. The point of these parodies is "affectionate snark." The jokes are written with love. If I hated the movie, I wouldn't bother. If you think I'm not funny, that's one thing, but please don't leave me long screeds about how I didn't "understand" or "appreciate" the movie, because you're preaching to the choir. (Yes, I have received, and am still receiving, a lot of these. Two today alone, in fact.)

P.S. Please look up the difference between "heroin" and "heroine" before you complain about my "Heroine Addict" icons. It's a pun. It's supposed to be a positive thing. I'm not calling anyone a drug user. Thank you, and enjoy.

Oh, and since it always comes up: I never have a problem with anyone leaving comments. In fact, if you'd like, you can leave them in the comments for me to see. But please don't copy or repost the entire thing anywhere; excerpts and links are always fine, though.

ETA: Minor corrections have been made to dates and a couple of names.

Suggestion for Phantom in 15 minutes

LOL terrific summary. You caught all the things about the movie that are minorly (or majorly) annoying.

One thing I'd like to add:

When the Phantom takes Christine down to his lair, supposedly DEEP beneath the Paris Opera House, and that cheezy 80s music starts, how come it's probably at the same level the Paris SEWERS are? And howcome nobody complains about the STINK? Oh wait, it's PARIS in the 1870s and they're all FRENCH. They don't notice things like that.

I've read your 15m version about ten times already, and it's just GREAT!

One thing I wanted to point out-- anyone notice how Christine had those white thigh highs on during the title song and Music of the Night... and yet after she faints and wakes up in the swan bed the next morning, they're missing?

Erik! You naughty boy, taking Christine's stockings!!

Re: Fantastic!

You know, I just saw that on a movie mistakes site and I tucked the link away in Semagic for my next entry--I think my actual note was, "Oh, Phantom, you dog."

It's official.

I have to see this movie now, though I don't think I'll be able to without hearing this bit in my head through the whole thing.

Friggin' brilliant!

Kathi!

Procitaj moj najnoviji post.

Puno pozdrava, Rene

Re: Budimpesta

Srećo, nisi skužio gdje moraš pritisnuti.

Puno sreće drugi put.

that....is the most awesome thing i've read in the longest time. maybe ever.

wonderful. applause, applause, perfect.

the awesome thing is, i think i thought about almost everything in here while watching the movie.

the only part missing is where christine is trembling on the floor of the phantom's lair, pretending to be scared.

yeah, that's right, pretending.

WOO. you are my official hero.

Uh, yeah. I wanna say that I found your POA in 15 minutes through someone else (can't remember who right now), and thought it was absolutely fantastic. I've been a Phantom phan phorever, and only just realized yesterday that you have a Phantom story too!! I absolutely love it!! It is sooo funny!! I actually made an icon, cause I was in that kind of mood, but I don't have an animator, and I can't upload the pictures onto this text page. Poo. It was cute though. If I get it animated (somehow), I'll see if I can put it up. I love your stories though!!

Cleo, you are brilliant, and I am friending you and I am promoting you, kk? xD I haven't had such a good laugh reading parodies in AGES, woman-- AGES!!! So I am printing this out with your copyright on it and I will read it over and over again. :) There are so many quotes I want to make icons out of, but I have to study for a midterm -_-; But for sure those quotes... ought to be copyrighted legally xD

Anyhow, thank you for writing this & sharing *wipes tears from eyes* omg that was so funny.

Another question: I thought I saw somewhere you were publishing an actual book of parodies?? Not sure b/c I was scanning, but correct me if I'm wrong =D

Awww, thank you so much! I'm working on the book as we speak--10 blockbusters from 1993-2003, Fifteen Minutes, etc. I'm running later with the manuscript than we expected, but it seems to be coming along well, and I think we'll still make the October release date that Orion wants. I just asked my agent to ask them where all it'll be coming out, so I'll be able to tell people that pretty soon.
