Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes

As promised: Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes. I'm still counting up the fundraising, but we'll have a final count soon. I'm already running late with the book manuscript, but this was a very quick write--it practically parodies itself, and it was fun, and a good palate cleanser.

ETA 4/02/05: Okay. I'm gonna try to be real clear about this. I really, really liked the movie. I liked the book. I have never seen the show, but I would probably like it, and I ended up really enjoying the music. I like the actors involved. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ME COMMENTS ABOUT MY "HATE" FOR THE MOVIE. The point of these parodies is "affectionate snark." The jokes are written with love. If I hated the movie, I wouldn't bother. If you think I'm not funny, that's one thing, but please don't leave me long screeds about how I didn't "understand" or "appreciate" the movie, because you're preaching to the choir. (Yes, I have received, and am still receiving, a lot of these. Two today alone, in fact.)

P.S. Please look up the difference between "heroin" and "heroine" before you complain about my "Heroine Addict" icons. It's a pun. It's supposed to be a positive thing. I'm not calling anyone a drug user. Thank you, and enjoy.

Oh, and since it always comes up: I never have a problem with anyone leaving comments. In fact, if you'd like, you can leave them in the comments for me to see. But please don't copy or repost the entire thing anywhere; excerpts and links are always fine, though.

ETA: Minor corrections have been made to dates and a couple of names.

Bloody Brillant

I read this when I first saw the movie (which I adore by the by) and I've never laughed so hard! I still nearly piddle myself each time I read it! I have it on my favorites and anytime I need a laugh I refer to: "Sure have a party."

I'm Vid maker and once I get a hold of a good quality copy of the movie (probably in May when the DVD comes out) I plan to make a "Silent Movie" version of your little spoof, I'll keep you posted.

I personally loved the movie. And the whole giving the phantom the ring thing at the end... I got the same impression. But Christine was such a bitch. I mean go for the more interesting guy (I mean just make him wear the mask. It didn't look that bad considering the other side of his face was Gerard Butler) who really luvs you, not the pretty boy.

OMG THAT MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD! That has to be the first thing online that actually made me laugh out loud several times. I LOVE that. :DD

pure comedic genius, my friend. It was like everything we thought of when we saw it and a lot more that we didn't think to make fun of. Also, this makes clear that you've been behind almost every funny thing I've ever seen on lj. Also, your disclaimer was identical to my own....only freakishly hilarious.

That was *SO* cool!

I love the movie! I've never been to an Opera, but they seem fun!

I can't stop reading it!!

I can't breath from laughing so hard!

I think my parents think I'm going crazy!

*whippes tears away* Ok, enough writing in short sentences!

Keep writing!

Re: *XD*

Aww, thanks. And don't worry, there's no danger of me stopping. The book's coming out this fall. : )

Wow. I was referred here months ago by a friend but didn't say anything because I figured the comments had stopped and you already had enough of them to read. But seeing how I have been disproved on the former, I figured I might as well chip in my two cents.

This is awesome. :) I laughed hysterically the first time I read it, and I still do. I have to agree with you on the "deformity" thing -- it's a movie, they probably had much more money than a stage production, you'd think they'd have made the deformity a little more...deformed. Seriously, his face looked almost fine in some shots during the final lair scene. But was it just me, or did you (or anyone else, for that matter) notice that from the time Christine gives back the Phantom/Raoul's ring to the time we see the shot of the Phantom looking on as they leave in his gondola, that the one half of his face (the "deformity") gets steadily redder?

But anyway, I figured I'd just add mty one comment to the sea of praise you already have. :) Good luck with that book and I'll continue to read "Movies in Fifteen Minutes".

Aww, thanks! (I do read all the comments, yeah. : )

I haven't noticed the redness thing, mostly because I only saw the movie once, but it's going to be out on DVD in a couple of weeks. I'll have to look for that.

I am--after years of slaving away on fiction, a publisher popped up and asked me to do a Fifteen Minutes book. So that's what I'm (still) trying to finish. : )

That was the best way to spend my time while I was procrastonating. Thank you so much for that, I hadn't laughed once all day.

CHRISTINE: So, I’m gonna take your mask off.
CHRISTINE: Peeling it off as we speak.
THE PHANTOM: Ten-four.
CHRISTINE: It’s totally coming off.
THE PHANTOM: Sure, have a party.
THE MASK: *comes off*

*is ded* Also, I agree with Christine. The phantom doesn'ts seem to be cognizant of the fact that, if he leaves the mask on, the other half of his face looks like Gerard Butler, and he could therefore have a different opera girl every night for the rest of his life and no one would be complaining.

I about died laughing when I read this. I'm a die-hard Phantom fan [well, okay, a phan, I guess, but that just bothers me] and everything you said about the movie was too true! OMG! *dies* Very well done. :)
