Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes

As promised: Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes. I'm still counting up the fundraising, but we'll have a final count soon. I'm already running late with the book manuscript, but this was a very quick write--it practically parodies itself, and it was fun, and a good palate cleanser.

ETA 4/02/05: Okay. I'm gonna try to be real clear about this. I really, really liked the movie. I liked the book. I have never seen the show, but I would probably like it, and I ended up really enjoying the music. I like the actors involved. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ME COMMENTS ABOUT MY "HATE" FOR THE MOVIE. The point of these parodies is "affectionate snark." The jokes are written with love. If I hated the movie, I wouldn't bother. If you think I'm not funny, that's one thing, but please don't leave me long screeds about how I didn't "understand" or "appreciate" the movie, because you're preaching to the choir. (Yes, I have received, and am still receiving, a lot of these. Two today alone, in fact.)

P.S. Please look up the difference between "heroin" and "heroine" before you complain about my "Heroine Addict" icons. It's a pun. It's supposed to be a positive thing. I'm not calling anyone a drug user. Thank you, and enjoy.

Oh, and since it always comes up: I never have a problem with anyone leaving comments. In fact, if you'd like, you can leave them in the comments for me to see. But please don't copy or repost the entire thing anywhere; excerpts and links are always fine, though.

ETA: Minor corrections have been made to dates and a couple of names.

This. Freakin'. Rocks.

Wow...this is HYSTERICAL!!! I love parodies, I saw the movie and I kept remembering part of POTO in 15 mins. I actually started laughing during the scene in the graveyard...*stabbity* *slashity* Ah, good times. Thank you for writing this...every once in a while, when I'm having a bad day, I'll read this and it makes me laugh every time. At points, the movie was so corny it was funny...thanks for taking advantage of the not-so-great parts and making them great parts b/c I remembered how you made fun of them in this. <3 <3

Disclaimer: I do not hate the movie. I just think it could've been better. Although I LOVE Emmy Rossum...she played the "airhead Christine" part VERY well. And I love her voice...<3 <3 <3

laughing hysterically

WOW!!! I was just referred here by someone after I commented on their hilarious icon...which had one of your quotes on it. I can't believe I had not found your community. YOU ARE FREAKIN' HILARIOUS!!! I sooo will buy your book. I just watched POTO for the first time last week and fell in love. Your version is sooooo funny. So, many things I thought when I watched it...like when she took off his mask the first time. *Giggle*...she's all touching it for about 10 mins and he's all with the "oooh ahhh, mmm, more" face. Then she rips it off and he freaks. You captured that wonderfully. I can't even read anymore right now for fear that my co-workers would either have me committed b/c I can't control my laughte...or just tell on me for being on the net :) I can't wait to check out some of your other parodies. Do you ever do tv shows? B/C I could think of some (*couch Buffy cough*) that would be great. BTW, I am from Prattville, AL...I don't live there now, but a lot of my family do. Thought I'd share, since I think I saw that you were from Birmingham. Anyway, thanks for brightening my day. Sorry for rambling.

Re: laughing hysterically

Oh, wow, another Alabamian! Glad you enjoyed it. : ) Actually, I also recap Lost (although I have to go back and do the last four eps or so--I had to stop and make the book deadline) and did Empire as a six-episode one-off (and I still have to do the last two of those).

I could not stop laughing, that has got to be one of the funniest and most clever parodies I have ever red in my life. You are very very talented, and please please please, keep 'im comiing. I've read pretty much all of them now, and I love Phantom with all my heart and soul, but you picked out the funniest moments of the film that I totally got and summed it up in all it's halarity.
For example, the Angel of Music part where Christene picks out a dress that shows off her new lace garters, lol! And, the dancers *shimmmy* in Point of no Return, but my fav was the,

THE PHANTOM: Welcome to my lair! Let me show you around!

THE PHANTOM: My Wall of Crazy!

THE PHANTOM: My terrifyingly detailed Opera House dioramas and voodoo dolls!

CHRISTINE: I like the colors!

THE PHANTOM: And here’s my cherished My First Wedding Christine doll! Look, it’s life-size!

HALARIOUS! You have made my frickin' day and are a genius. Please please please do more. I know SOOO many movies, and I know what you mean by loving bad movies for the sake of their badness, cuz I'm the same. And you could make it all that much funnier. Particularly some old macheezmo horror movies, such as Halloween, or Nightmare on Elm Street. Maybe some M. Night Shamalan, cuz his movies seem to be INFESTED with cheesiness if you look for it. Wish I could do it. Keep it up!!

so even though this is months and months old, I just noticed the "heroine/heroin addict" edit and I'm laughing my ass off... people are special sometimes...

I found this... so... FUNNY! I had to stop in a couple places because I couldn't concentrate 'cause I was laughing so much. Thank you so much for this, I found it utterly hilarious.

I truly enjoyed this. It's not often I literally "LOL," but tonight I managed, thanks to you.

Even though I haven't seen the movie, it was great. The Dread Pirate Roberts Pep Squad made me laugh. It reminded me of The Princess Bride, which you should parody if the movie industry completely crashes and burns and you end up with enough time in your lifespan to parody every half-decent movie ever made. And all the good ones. Wow, how random. Anywho...great stuff. Made my day. WOOT!

This is fantastic xD I loved the movie, and this summed it up fantastically in all the hilarity of the movie...

And the ugly monkey box was a terrifying thing to add to the plot. I still don't get it.
