Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes

As promised: Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes. I'm still counting up the fundraising, but we'll have a final count soon. I'm already running late with the book manuscript, but this was a very quick write--it practically parodies itself, and it was fun, and a good palate cleanser.

ETA 4/02/05: Okay. I'm gonna try to be real clear about this. I really, really liked the movie. I liked the book. I have never seen the show, but I would probably like it, and I ended up really enjoying the music. I like the actors involved. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ME COMMENTS ABOUT MY "HATE" FOR THE MOVIE. The point of these parodies is "affectionate snark." The jokes are written with love. If I hated the movie, I wouldn't bother. If you think I'm not funny, that's one thing, but please don't leave me long screeds about how I didn't "understand" or "appreciate" the movie, because you're preaching to the choir. (Yes, I have received, and am still receiving, a lot of these. Two today alone, in fact.)

P.S. Please look up the difference between "heroin" and "heroine" before you complain about my "Heroine Addict" icons. It's a pun. It's supposed to be a positive thing. I'm not calling anyone a drug user. Thank you, and enjoy.

Oh, and since it always comes up: I never have a problem with anyone leaving comments. In fact, if you'd like, you can leave them in the comments for me to see. But please don't copy or repost the entire thing anywhere; excerpts and links are always fine, though.

ETA: Minor corrections have been made to dates and a couple of names.

OH MY GOD, HE'S SLIGHTLY UNATTRACTIVE ON ONE SIDE! TO ARMS!Collapse )

Cleo darling, you've been plagerized

Sweetie, a friend of mine on another site found this link:

She's changed a word or two here and there, but it's your work. Just wanted to tell you. I'm going to write the moderators and let them know.

Smooches,

Talia

This...is THE funniest thing I have ever read. Seriously, no lie. I could not stop laughing for five minutes...and, yeah...my parents thought I was, like, dying.

movie in the making?

Hey, I'm an amateur videographer and also an avid Phantom fan. I read your Phantom in 15 Minutes last year and fell in love with it. We are having a short-film contest here at school and I was wondering if you would mind if I did a film version of your adaptation. I'm still in the brainstorming ideas phase, but I wanted to check with you first to see what you thought (and of course, if you agree, you would get a copy of it if/when my friends and I get it finished).

Re: movie in the making?

I've given permission for this kind of thing before, so have at it. Just make sure I'm credited in writing. : )

Ha, you made me like this movie more. I'm more than kind of a Phantom book (original book) and Original Broadway Cast fangirl, so the film did not please me, but this alone makes me actually want to watch it, ha.

Jesus, this is seriuosly the greatest thing in the entire world. I cried I was laughing so hard.

This was one of the funniest freakin' things I've read in a LOOONG time. I mean, I was laughing so hard someone in the next room told me it was annoying, after fifteen minutes of movieness.

If I quote parts of it, I'll credit it to cleolinda. Would that be sufficient?

For one reason or another, I have refrained from commenting until now, although I want to make sure that it's not because I don't love them. I have introduced some of the people I dorm with, and we love quoting it at each other. I've even been asked to bring back a second copy of the book (I'm from New Zealand, and am travelling to Europe later on in the year) for a friend.

I've only just seen POTO (and Troy - thank you so much for making that movie bareable, btw. The classics geek in me wept at it all, and I love you all the more for your display of knowledge about things that actually occur, such as your Oresteia references etc.) and just finished the book as well, and now I love this parody even more. The comedy sheep were real (who'da thunk?) and so were the Dread Pirate Roberts ballet.
All in all, a wonderful piece of work, and thank you very much for each and every one of these parodies.

I can't wait to read the V for Vendetta one, but I am waiting until I see the movie first - it's bad enough to have shrieks of laughter combined with M15M quotes in a room with two or three people, so I highly doubt that a full cinema would be too pleased.

Keep up with all the wonderful work, and even though it is months away, I cannot wait to read the book.

Awww, thanks. (People are always surprised to find out that I didn't make up the comedy sheep. Heh.)

Hilarious!

I have a deep fondness for this book/musical/film, though I haven't yet had a chance to read the much-loved Kay novel. I laughed all the way through this. My friend and I read it out loud together and took turns with parts, as we do with some of our favorite parodies. I used it for a lighthearted break amidst some of my worst midterms. You're right about the movie parodying itself--as I said, I love this story, and I could watch the movie again and again (though I think I prefer the musical), but even without being a particularly funny film, there are plenty of comic targets. I think you've taken full advantage of those, though, without turning it into something crass or just a melange of forced caricatures. Not being a good humor writer myself, and having read several terrible attempts at similar parodies, I feel perfectly easy giving you my extremely rare 10/10 for this story. I look forward to reading more Movies in Fifteen!

I did give permission to someone--I think? Someone asked me; I can't remember if I answered or not. It's probably them.
