Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes

As promised: Phantom of the Opera in Fifteen Minutes. I'm still counting up the fundraising, but we'll have a final count soon. I'm already running late with the book manuscript, but this was a very quick write--it practically parodies itself, and it was fun, and a good palate cleanser.

ETA 4/02/05: Okay. I'm gonna try to be real clear about this. I really, really liked the movie. I liked the book. I have never seen the show, but I would probably like it, and I ended up really enjoying the music. I like the actors involved. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ME COMMENTS ABOUT MY "HATE" FOR THE MOVIE. The point of these parodies is "affectionate snark." The jokes are written with love. If I hated the movie, I wouldn't bother. If you think I'm not funny, that's one thing, but please don't leave me long screeds about how I didn't "understand" or "appreciate" the movie, because you're preaching to the choir. (Yes, I have received, and am still receiving, a lot of these. Two today alone, in fact.)

P.S. Please look up the difference between "heroin" and "heroine" before you complain about my "Heroine Addict" icons. It's a pun. It's supposed to be a positive thing. I'm not calling anyone a drug user. Thank you, and enjoy.

Oh, and since it always comes up: I never have a problem with anyone leaving comments. In fact, if you'd like, you can leave them in the comments for me to see. But please don't copy or repost the entire thing anywhere; excerpts and links are always fine, though.

ETA: Minor corrections have been made to dates and a couple of names.

This is so epically brilliant, it's not even funny. My friend and I have been reading it out loud to each other all day.

Pff, haha. <3

As a super-fan of the book and the movie, I just love this parody to little bits and pieces, then put it back together, and continue the love. <3

Well-written, and awesomely awesome in every sense of the word. Bunny hopping lust for the win. <333

I love this movie and I love how you pointed out the many plotholes. I also like how you mention the non-existent Persian. >.> I love the music of the movie and I love the book. And Gerard Butler ain't bad either lol

I was just reading the book -- which, btw, could Raoul be any more of a bitch? No, I thought not -- and I felt I needed to reread this. And I gotta say, as much as I love the book, I wouldn't mind seeing this movie instead of the original. It just makes more sense this way, you know?

Anyway, I don't think I've commented on your M15Ms before, even though I love them like whoa. You are an amazing writer and humorist, and every time I read ANYTHING you've written I get inspired. So, you know. Thank you. You're great, keep up the good work, yes, indeedy, I AM a bit of a fangirl, how did you guess?

OMG, I think I love this m15m most of all. Even more than 300 or Van Helsing. This is effing brilliant!!! And it helps a lot that I could picture every scene in my mind because I love the movie and have seen it like 7 times *grin* (though Gerard disappointed me - I think he has musical background? how could his singing be so very... not good?)

CHRISTINE: I just wanted to give you the ring. You know. As a token. Of my eternal… affection. Yeah. “Affection.” And my phone number. And my forwarding address.
THE PHANTOM: Go, Christine! The mob is coming!
RAOUL [throwing Christine over his shoulder]: Oh, for the love of…!
CHRISTINE [shouting back to the Phantom]: Don’t be a stranger!

And this quote made me giggle like mad because in my head the story ends with a secretive threesome where the phantom strolls the roofs of Paris at night to brood to his hearts content and lives in the basement of Raouls mansion, Raoul being jealous about Christine liking the Phantom more than him and trying to put him in his place in taking Christine out to every ball and whatnot, and Phantom being utterly oblivious to anything and everything that doesn't have to do with Christine and music. What do you mean, this isn't how it happened? This is my ending and I am sticking with it! :-D

Monty Phantom's Flying Opera!

I was quite literally rolling on the floor laughing after reading the following piece:

[Suddenly the lights drop and the music goes evil and the Phantom enters dressed as the Red Death, or the Spanish Inquisition, or something.]

Ahhh, that was funny. I am a die-hard Monty Python fan and now I really want to make a video on youtube of this with some friends. I don't suppose you'd let me? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE????? :'(

Yesterday, I watched the broadcast of the 25th anniversary performance. It was lovely and perfect, and I can't even tell you how many times I giggled to myself, remembering something from your fifteen minute movie. Ahhh, seven years later and it's still cracking me up :D

Actually, I think I've seen the show at least 5 or 6 more times since the movie came out, and I always, ALWAYS think of, "DADDY LOVES YOU, CHRISTINE!" during the mausoleum scene...

Just catching up since you referenced this in your ebook. (I'm so glad you did!) Just watched this film version for the first time (read book twenty years ago and seen stage musical several times over 25 years). You. Nailed. It.

Me best friend and I found this back in high school when it was first posted. We had a nostalgia attack and came back to read it now almost seven years later. Still freaking funny. Thank you!

The movie came on HBO or Starz or something last night and reminded me how funny this was. I had to look it up again.
